Nine members of the River Ridge FFA Chapter attended the 96th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis on Nov. 1 through Nov. 3. Over 60,000 people attended this year’s convention which hosts a variety of events for the students to participate in. One of the events that the students enjoyed was the college fair which included universities, community colleges, technical colleges and private colleges from across the country. There was also a trade show with some of the biggest agriculture companies represented such as Merck Animal Health, Caterpillar, Lily Endowment Inc, Cargill, Bayer, Tractor Supply, John Deere, and Dow AgriSciences. Students had the opportunity to visit with these and many other companies throughout the week. In addition to the career and college fair, students went on tours of local agribusinesses. They toured Ozark Fisheries, a koi and goldfish production facility in Indiana as well as Goat Milk Stuff. “GMS” is a working dairy goat farm that processes its fluid milk into over 40 different kinds of soaps, lip balms, toothpastes and detergents. It was a great experience for students to see the variety of careers within the agriculture industry.
