98th annual Elizabeth Fair

ELIZABETH–It’s all about celebrating family, friends and traditions this weekend at the 98th annual Elizabeth Community Fair, July 20-22.

The fun begins Friday, July 21 with the dairy and sheep show at 9 a.m., the crafts and gardening judging at 10 and the dairy goat show at 1. The carnival is open from 5 to 10 p.m. with inflatables. The day wraps up with the Fantasy Truck Pullers at 7 p.m.

Saturday, July 21 is jam-packed with entertainment. The 8 a.m. beef heifer show, followed by the steer show, begins the day. The parade, with the theme “Elizabeth, 150 years: Celebrating Family, Friends and Traditions,” gets underway at 11 am., followed by a noon lunch that’s free to the first 500 people, sponsored by the Jo Daviess County Beef Association and Illinois Bank & Trust.

There’s fun all afternoon, beginning at 12:30 p.m. with bingo and then the 1 p.m. kiddie tractor pull.

There’s an ice cream eating contest at 2, the ag olympics at 2:30 and the Terrapin alumni reunion in the old school gym at 3. The band “Good Stuff” will entertain from 4 to 6 p.m. The Dairyland Tractor Pull kicks off at 5:30 p.m., and musician Sam Wooden will entertain from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Elizabeth Fair pageant for queen, junior miss and little miss is slated for 7:30 p.m., before the band “Sunshine” takes the stage at 9 p.m. Fireworks will light up the sky at 9:30 p.m.
