Hazel Green declares state of emergency

Posted

HAZEL GREEN, Wis.–As Gov. Tony Evers declared a safer-at-home policy on March 24, Wisconsin communities began enacting emergency procedures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At a Wednesday, March 25 meeting, the Hazel Green Village Board approved a resolution declaring a state of emergency spanning from March 19 to May 1, unless the resolution is rescinded sooner.

The resolution also suspended ordinances, resolutions and policies that required a gathering or face -to-face contact, as well as those that would require a violation of any federal or state emergency order.

The village board authorized Village President Dave Jegerlehner to take actions to modify village staff operations and programs as deemed necessary to minimize the likelihood that employees would be exposed to COVID-19. The authorization encourages the use of mail, digital communications, drop box and other methods that do not require face-to-face contact.

The board also authorized the village president to cancel, suspend or limit recreational, educational or other non-essential programs that require a gathering of people in confined spaces.

Additionally, the board authorized refunds of registration fees, deposits or other payments made for participation in programs that will be cancelled as a result of the pandemic.

The board authorized Jegerlehner to allow employees to work from home, if possible, and to provide compensation for employees who have the time lost if they have been exposed to coronavirus and are to remain at home.

Jegerlehner also was given the authority to authorize extended leave beyond staff members accrued sick leave or authorized leave time for employees diagnosed with COVID-19 or who have been ordered to quarantine or self-isolate.

Jegerlehner is also authorized to limit hours of operation or close village facilities and services and to provide public information regarding the coronavirus and its effects on the village and village operations.
