Three early settlers visit Prairie Ridge! Three women of Galena’s Courage and Commitment will visit Prairie Ridge, Sunday, August 27, at 2 p.m. These visitors will include Elizabeth Soulard, one of the earliest settlers to the Fever River settlement. She and her husband first saw the area on their way from St. Louis to search for the head waters of the Mississippi River. Sarah Coates Harris, wife of Daniel Smith Harris, the famous riverboat captain, will be another visitor. She was also one of the first licensed female doctors in the state of Illinois. Finally, Mary Miller, a colorful character noted for her drinking and partying will be stopping by. Come and hear their stories. There are a limited number of tickets, which are $10. For a reservation, call 815-777-6932. Here, Sarah Coates Harris, prominent Galenian portrayed by Deb Pausz, and Mary Miller, one of Galena’s shadiest characters, interpreted by Emily Painter, cross paths this Sunday at Prairie Ridge.
