Members of the Galena Lions Club recently put a fresh coat of paint on the informational kiosk at Horseshoe Mound, a structure built by the club soon after this site opened to the public. The Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation owns and manages the land of wildflowers, trees, wildlife, paths, and views for the public to enjoy. The Galena Lions Club also donated to JDCF for the long-view scopes that were permanently installed there. Galena Lions Club donations are made possible by the one-day fundraising event Galena Oktoberfest, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 30, at Depot Park. Lions Club paints Horseshoe Mound kiosk
A failing box culvert on IL Rt. 84 to Hanover, IL., is being replaced with a bury-in-place cement culvert. Due to the depth that the box culvert was originally placed, over 30 feet below pavement level, the entire roadway had to be closed so the project could be completed. Visible above are the remains of the old structure and the large concrete culvert sections replacing it.
