Stockton High School’s music department won the Class D overall music championship having scored the highest in the combined solo/ensemble and organizational competitions. Champions!: Stockton music department wins state crown
Dr. Crist congratulates Dr. Crist or like father like son. . .Dr. Alan Crist, right, congratulates his son, Joshua, after graduating University of Illinois School of Medicine Rockford on May 7 in front of the Coronado Theater. Joshua is a 2014 River Ridge High School graduate and received his bachelor’s degree in 2018 from Trinity International University. Joshua is the son of Sandy and Alan Crist. He and his wife, Morgan, have a son, Walter, 5 months.

Southwestern High School’s Building Planning and Construction class taught by Chet Hillary had the opportunity to attend the Dubuque Area Labor Management Council’s career construction day held at Portzen Construction on May 29. The students learned about different careers in construction and had the opportunity to perform some construction tasks. Students in Kindergarten through second grade at Stockton Elementary School worked on speed stacking in their physical education class. Students learned the basic 3 stack, the 3-3-3 stack, 3-6-3 stack and the 6-6 stack. Cup stacking helps the elementary students use both sides of their bodies and brains to develop important skills and also promotes hand-eye coordination, ambidexterity, quickness and concentration. Warren eighth grade Pre-Engineering students participated in an engineering design challenge where the students had to design a cardboard canoe, measure and construct a model, then measure and create a cardboard canoe to be raced at the Apple Canyon Lake pool. Teacher Sara Robbe had the students calculate the surface area of the canoe, total weight of canoe, total cost of cardboard and total cost of the duct tape. These calculations helped them determine how far in the water the canoe would sink and how much weight their craft would hold. Students were only allowed to use corrugated cardboard and duct tape. On Monday, May 23, the students tested their designs at the pool. Pictured are: Sophie Leverton and Averi Sabinson.

Senior Rive Ridge FFA member Ashley Carroll, right, recently qualified for state in the Job Interview Leadership Development Event. She prepared documents needed for a professional job interview creating a cover letter, completing a job application, crafting a resume and a thank you follow-up letter followed by a phone and in-person interview. FFA members must place first or second in the section contest before moving on to districts. The top three participants qualify for the state contest held in conjunction with the State FFA Convention in Springfield in June. Carroll just completed a year of service as club president and plans on studying pre-veterinary medicine at Iowa State University. River Ridge FFA qualifies two for state
River Ridge’s sixth grade STEM Class finished their dragster project on May 11. Evalynn Doms took first place, Dominick Defilippo took second and Alex Navarro won most aesthetically pleasing.
