Galena Area Chamber of Commerce reveals Halloween poster: Spirit Tour will be a chance to celebrate at a distance

Posted

GALENA–Halloween will be different in Galena this year without the annual Halloween parade drawing thousands to Main Street.

But the Galena Area Chamber of Commerce is still celebrating the tradition. Last week the chamber revealed the 2020 Halloween poster, designed by local artist Craig Raymon, and the new Spirit Tour is ready for registrations.

The poster is available for $10 at Illinois Bank & Trust, Poopsie’s, Spotsie’s, Honest John’s, all on Main Street, and the Galena & U.S. Grant Museum on Bench Street.

A fundraiser for the chamber, Illinois Bank & Trust sponsored the poster, which was printed by chamber member Welu Printing in East Dubuque.

Eight local artists submitted designs. Raymon donated his $250 prize to purchase masks for local businesses.

The new Spirit Tour is an opportunity for families to go on a self guided, socially distanced walking or driving tour of area homes or businesses that register to be in the decorating contest.

The contest is open to all individual homes and businesses in Galena and Jo Daviess County. Registration is now open at galenachamber.com and will run through Sept. 15.

The tour begins Oct. 1 and runs through Oct. 31.

Online voting will begin Oct. 10 and end on Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. Winners will be announced on Halloween, Oct. 31. First, second and third place winners will be chosen for residential and business categories and will receive a traveling sign to display in their yards or storefronts, along with an award certificate.

Decorations must represent the Halloween spirit while remaining PG-13 and tasteful. Any discriminatory or inappropriate decorations will be disqualified.

Remember that children will be a large part of the audience. Judges decisions are final.

Report any inappropriate decorations to the chamber office.
