Jo Daviess County Board approves round three of grants

GALENA-The Jo Daviess County Board approved the third round of small business stabilization grant loans at its July 14 meeting. The county awarded seven grants totaling $9,944. The businesses receiving grants are:

•Isabella’s LTD, Galena–$2,897.

•Competition One Racing, Scales Mound–$1,633.

•Hairspray Salon, Elizabeth–$1,082.

•See It Signs, Stockton–$966.

•Galena Apothecary, Galena–$1,943.

•Abe’s Spring Street Guest House, Galena–$834.

•Little Valley Life, Elizabeth–$589.

The board approved the extension of the small business stabilization grant program but will not implement round four until after a review in October. The county has awarded $68,266 to businesses through the program.

Other business

The board also:

•approved the removal of the chief deputy sheriff position and the operational lieutenant position from the position classification/compensation plan.

•approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Jo Daviess County Housing Authority.

•approved a request from the Elizabeth Community Ambulance Service to create a new special service area that includes all of the existing property in Special Service Area 2 and 4 and Special Service Area 5. A public hearing is set for Friday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m.

•accepted the resignation of Hendrica Regez as a member of the Census Complete Count Committee.

•approved the Derinda Township culvert replacement cost share project in the amount of $60,000.

•approved the Warren/Rush Township bridge repair cost share project in the amount of $5,000.

•approved a resolution to temporarily suspend the annual reapplication requirements for the homestead exemption for persons with disabilities, homestead exemption for veterans with disabilities and the senior citizen assessment freeze homestead exemption.
