Galena Halloween parade cancelled

Posted

GALENA–The Galena Area Chamber of Commerce board has voted to cancel the 2020 Halloween Parade scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31. Current federal, state and local guidelines regarding the ongoing threat of COVID-19, and the historically large draw of over 20,000 visitors to the annual event, resulted in the decision.

“While we are disappointed to share this decision, we feel that the health and safety of our community must take precedent over any large events this year,” said Angela DeVere, chamber director. “State-mandated guidelines will not allow gatherings of more than 50 people at any event until Illinois reaches Phase 5 of reopening. This event is planned months in advance with coordinated efforts between volunteers, vendors, parade participants and local and state law enforcement which is unable to happen at this time.”

More details will be released soon about the chamber’s 2020 Halloween Spirit Tour which is being coordinated with other local organizations. This will be a month-long decorating contest in October for homes and businesses, and will include the introduction of the Halloween poster to be sold at a variety of locations this fall.
