Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau donates money for milk at food pantries

ELIZABETH–The Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau has teamed up with other Farm Bureaus in northwest Illinois to provide milk to area food pantries.

“Each year the farm bureaus in our district do some kind of advertising campaign that promotes and educates the public about agriculture,” said Annette Eggers, manager of the Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau. “In the past few years, our projects have ranged from billboards promoting the importance of agriculture to the children’s ag exhibit in the Discovery Center in Rockford. This year, with all of the challenges going on, we decided to donate milk to the food pantries in our counties. This would not only be of help to our dairy farmers, but would provide assistance to those in need as well.”

The farm bureaus will be donating $5,000 to Northern Illinois Food Bank and River Band Foodbank to use to purchase 1,900 gallons of milk for local food pantries. The food pantries in each county will be receiving $1,000 of milk to go to their customers.

“The money was sent to River Bend Foodbank that services our area,” said Eggers. “They, in turn, will be distributing the milk to our area food pantries when they are making their other deliveries.”

Other county Farm Bureaus participating include Carroll, Stephenson, Ogle and Winnebago-Boone.
