GALENA–Jenna Diedrich is serving as the interim director of the Galena Public Library.
Library Board President Earl Thompson made that announcement last week after the departure of former director Nita Burke at the end of August. Burke resigned from the position which she’d held for just over a year.
Diedrich is the library’s technical services librarian as well. Rachel Lenstra, children and teen services librarian, will take on administrative assistant duties during the interim period and continue with her children’s library responsibilities, Thompson explained.
The board’s human resources committee will begin the search for a new director in coming weeks. Members of that committee are board members Dianne Allendorf and Maria Rector.
Prior to hiring Burke, the library board struggled for several months to hire a full-time director after the resignation of Susi Ludwig in March 2018.
Colleen Keleher, who has since retired, filled the role of interim director after Ludwig’s resignation.
The board originally hired Lenstra, children and teen services librarian, as the director. Shortly after assuming the role, Lenstra resigned and returned to her previous position.
The Galena Public Library board’s regular meeting was held Monday, Sept. 9, past the Gazette’s press time.
