Elizabeth Village Board declares an emergency

ELIZABETH–The Elizabeth Village Board met virtually on Tuesday, April 14. After a month of waiting to declare an emergency, granting emergency powers to Village President Mike Dittmar, the board decided to move ahead with the resolution.

The board moved forward in fears they would be less likely to get proper funding if an emergency were not declared.

 

Other business

The board also:

•approved adjusting the liquor license fees due on May 1 to $1 until further notice.

•tabled a motion on utility billing late fees, disconnects and payment collection until the May meeting. The village board decided not to enforce any penalty at this time for those unable to pay and will discuss a payback option at future meetings.

•approved a resolution of support for the Elizabeth Ambulance Service for a tax increase to be brought before the Jo Daviess County Special Service Area commissions.

•learned that the Locust Street sewer project will have bids advertised next week and will let the bids at the board’s May 20 board meeting with the project’s anticipated start date to be late August or early September.

•learned that the Catlin Street water improvement project will have its timeline pushed back until later this summer.

•learned the downtown sidewalk project engineers are working with the Illinois Department of Transportation for an updated scope of the project.

•learned that the village submitted more paperwork to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and is waiting to receive the grant agreement before engineers can move forward with environmental work associated with the project.
