The Blaum Brothers Ghost Busters float makes its way down Main Street for the annual Galena Halloween Parade. Throngs of people lined Main Street to take in the annual event which features floats, families, businesses, politicians and numerous high school marching bands. Smoke and light from hot air balloons also lit up Main Street, giving it a magical glow. Barb Hocker, Galena Area Chamber of Commerce executive director, said there were 58 parade entries this year. She said warm temperatures helped draw a crowd of more than 25,000 people, a crowd which is believed to be larger than last year.

On Tuesday, Nov. 8th members of the Midwest Medical Center Auxiliary gathered in the Midwest Medical Center’s lobby for the initial trimming of the tree to prepare for the annual Tree of Love project. This project offers community members an opportunity to honor and remember loved ones during the holiday season by making a donation. By doing so, a personalized ornament is placed on the Tree of Love. Donation envelopes with more information for the project are available in the MMC lobby and gift shop, many area banking facilities and The Galena Gazette. A printable donation form is available at bit.ly/3U0EqKK on the MMC website. MMC Auxiliary trims Tree of Love
The bust of Sgt. Henry H. Taylor was delivered to the Rocky Mountain Bronze Shop, Loveland Colo., Dec. 12 by two Fickbohm-Hissem Post 193 American Legionnaires, Cmdr. Jerry Howard and Thom Mercker. The bust will be bronzed and returned by next April. Plans for the unveiling are for April 29 at Grant Park during the U.S. Grant Pilgrimage. The Boy Scouts, local veterans organizations and the 45th Volunteer Illinois Infantry are planning to attend the ceremony. Handing off the bust, from left, are Mercker, bronze shop owners Amy and Carey Hosterman and Howard. Taylor is Jo Daviess County’s sole Medal of Honor recipient.

Jordan Hoftender (left) and Renee Dieschbourg (right) worked at the sales table for the Riverview Center’s 26th annual Duck Derby Saturday Oct. 7. The Duck Derby, held at 3 p.m. on Oct. 8 in the Galena River, had a winning prize of $1,000. Additional winners had a chance to win a Midwest Staycation, or a gift card bundle. All proceeds go to providing free and confidential services to survivors of sexual and domestic violence.
Visitors, locals shop vendors at Country Fair: Several craft vendors, both local and farther away, came to sell their pieces at the Country Fair. Local businesses and organizations were also present to sell food and drinks.
