Horseshoe Mound Preserve features scavenger hunt

Posted

GALENA–Looking for some family fun in the outdoors? Although the Jo Daviess County Conservation Foundation (JDCF) has cancelled upcoming events, the staff has been busy planning family activities while respecting social distancing protocols.

JDCF has organized a scavenger hunt at its Horseshoe Mound Preserve. The scavenger hunt takes children in search of the five clues on this hunt. A numbered tree cookie marks the correct spot for each clue found. Answers will be posted on JDCF’s website, jdcf.org.

The clues are:

•A grassy mound designed for gazing at the night sky.

•Boulders imprinted with outlines of prehistoric animals.

•A home for our blue flying friends.

•An overlook with distant views of the Mississippi and turkey vultures circling at eye level.

•At the final stop, consider dropping a few coins in the tube to help keep this special place open.

JDCF staff see this is an opportunity to teach about generosity, community spirit and philanthropy, all important in challenging times.
