Evening ushers in a different world at the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation’s Valley of Eden Bird Sanctuary. JDCF is hosting a night-time hike on October 27, 6 p.m., to listen for night time animals including bats, owls, coyotes and more. With limited vision, other senses become heightened and allow one a whole new experience in nature. Leave your flashlights at home and meet JDCF Education Director Jess Carryer, by the kiosk for a slow hike on mowed trails. The program is free and RSVPs are not required. Valley of Eden is located at 5559 E Rush Creek Rd, Stockton. Rain date is Nov. 4 at the same time and location.

Spooky fun places to see this Halloween
A truck pulling a house tried to make its way down Main Street but couldn’t make its way through the street lined with cars. When the truck passed through the floodgates and The Galena Gazette office staff members Janet Shaw and Milly Jones said, almost in unison, “Did you see that truck carrying a house going down Main Street?” Galena police were called to the scene where they had to find the owners of the parked cars, and have those cars moved so the truck could continue down Main Street.
Tight squeeze!!!
On Oct. 2, the East golf course at Eagle Ridge closed for the season. On Oct. 3, the East crew played golf in the morning and at noon shared in eating pizza as well as a celebration cake. In the afternoon, the crew cleaned the outside area and locked up the carts for the season. Inside, they cleaned the clubhouse and inventoried all of the golf apparel and golf items as well as the food and beverage which was sent to the other courses. The hard and painstaking work which Daniel and Sandra Hurt have put into restoring the U.S. Grant Pre-Civil War House has been recognized by the city of Galena. On Wednesday, Oct. 5 the Hurts, front, from left, received the 2022 Galena Historic Preservation Award from Mayor Terry Renner with, back, from left, Craig Brown, Galena Historic Preservation Commission chair; Pam Bernstein and Marc McCoy, Galena City Council members; and Jonathon Miller, Galena zoning administrator. Renner told the couple that the city appreciates the care they have taken restoring the home and that it is an important community asset.
