St. Joseph’s School, Sinsinawa, Wis., swept all three places in the Grant County Land and Water Conservation Department’s poster contest with winners in both the K-1st grade group and the 2nd-3rd grade group. In the K-1st grade group, Grady Rosenthal was awarded first place, Meadow Tranel received second place and Carson Birkel received third. In the grade 2-3 group, Vincent Berning achieved first place, Lucy Mead earned second place and Louis Berning received third place for their poster. Rosenthal’s poster moved on to the area level where he was awarded third place. Galena senior Kevin Trinidad received a stole honoring the seal of biliteracy that Trinidad, along with other students in his class, achieved this year. The seal of biliteracy is a new award that is being given to Galena High School students. On Wednesday, April 26 the River Ridge FFA Chapter completed their Agriculture in the Classroom program. FFA members, led by Cora Dittmar and Cora Ritchie, created a lesson plan and then taught elementary students about the dairy industry. As a part of the lesson the students had the opportunity to make homemade whip cream. The Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom sponsored the project through a grant that allowed the River Ridge FFA to purchase a book for each student to take home. Above: Cora Dittmar with her lesson.
