Galena Grizzlies coach Quincy Kalkbrenner engages the younger children at the Galena Grizzlies Wrestling Academy at Galena Middle School on Monday, May 16. Kalkbrenner, along with Greg Krulas, led over 50 wrestlers during the first week of the camp. In total, 32 students were in the K-4 age group and 18 students from the fifth through eighth grade age group took part in the program. The Galena Grizzlies Wrestling Academy will be held again on June 6-10 at Galena ARC.

Galena/East Dubuque/River Ridge freshman athlete Zoe Eisenberg became just the third individual athlete in program history to be named state champion. Eisenberg threw a state record distance of 9.49 meters in the discus and also finished in second place in the shot put. More on the girls state track meet can be found on 13A.
