This year, it seems like even the weather is following this trend. While the people of Galena prepared for Halloween, they were greeted by snow on the morning of Oct. 31. Left: The snow stuck to some grass and structures in town but didn’t really stick on the ground besides that. This snowfall comes after a few flakes fell on the morning of Oct. 29. The receipt, dated Dec. 31, 1897, is for payment of a 1-year subscription to the Galena Weekly Gazette in the amount of $1.50. The receipt is made out to Mr. G. Francke who Geiger said was a relative of her husband, Nelson Geiger.
