These River Ridge Junior High FFA members, from left, Gracie Allen, Allie Karberg, Amber Davis, Nick Cobine and Faith Morhardt placed first in a dairy foods Career Development Event at Lena on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Although this was the first time any of them had tried their hand at this competition the competitors, all eighth graders, came away with a win out of six teams from area schools. At this CDE students are tested in a variety of ways including detecting and grading milk defects, differentiating between dairy and non-dairy products, identifying cheeses, reading and evaluating a California mastitis test, taking a written test on the dairy industry and completing a team math problem. Three of the River Ridge members were in the top 10 as individuals: Faith Morhardt, Amber Davis and Allie Karberg. The high school team placed sixth out of 14 teams.
